Torn From The Tundra

Hundreds of Nenets people still follow their ancestors' traditions of driving reindeer herds above the Arctic Circle. In the far north, deer are essential to their livelihood. In order to find suitable pasture land, families have to pack all their belongings and move every two days, in search of a new place to settle. If they don’t do this, their deer will harm the plants they eat, leading to low yield and subsequently putting the whole population at risk of dying of starvation. Thus, one family can cover a distance of 600 km in a year. What are their everyday lives like amid the permafrost and tundra?
